Pinkie’s Hair Raising Experience 2014
Sunday, August 31, 2014
Noon to Dusk

It’s hard to believe that San Francisco native Pinkie Varner has been a part of the San Juan Ridge community for only three years. In addition to being a lay leader and summer camp coordinator for North San Juan’s Methodist Church, she is a member of the North San Juan Center’s Board of Directors and Native Daughters of the Golden West. Pinkie’s seemingly inexhaustible passion for public service extends far beyond the confines of the Ridge as she is hard at work producing her 9th annual Hair Raising Experience, a fundraiser for young cancer patients.

When asked what motivates this labor of love, Pinkie replied, “Both my parents died of cancer. They were both very dedicated to children’s causes. And I’m a multi-cancer survivor.” Pinkie’s goal is to raise funds to purchase an adjustable human hair wig for at least one child who has suffered hair loss from cancer-related causes. A gift of an $1800 wig helps a young cancer patient to achieve a sense of normalcy during a very stressful time in a young life.

As well as producing the 9th annual Hair Raising Experience, Pinkie will be appearing at the all day blues-fest. Winner of 2011’s Modesto Music Association’s award for “Best Blues Band” and dubbed “Legendary Blues Vocalist” by Sutter Buttes Music Association in May, 2014, Pinkie will be performing, along with other artists at the North Columbia Schoolhouse on Sunday, August 31.

The San Juan Ridge Violin Class & Friends will open the show at noon. Emceed by T.C. King, blues artists, Pinkie & Blind Resistance; Val Starr & the Blues Rocket; Dipin’ Sauce; Jamal Walker Band; Grease, Grit & Grime; Dennis Sies & Friends; and headliner, Cee Cee James will be singing the blues until dark.

A $25 dollar ticket not only buys an all-day pass to a first class blues fest. It helps make at least one child’s life brighter. To reserve a vending space, learn how to donate to this excellent cause, or get more info on Pinkie’s 9th Annual Hair Raising Experience, call Pinkie at (530) 415-9705.
