The Art & Joy of Karen Hinrichs

The Joyful Art of Karen Hinrichs on display through May!

Karen Hinrichs was a vibrant, strong and focused woman who mastered the art of watercolors over her long art career. Works in this show range from pen and ink to watercolor, from life drawing to a magical realism of mixed worlds of imagination and figurative. This show, hung for the month of May only, serves as a way for the community that loved her to visit her vision and passion again, for she passed away two years ago in May 2015. Her husband and daughter wanted to exhibit her art one more time in the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center because she served on the Board of Directors there for over 20 years, and deeply loved the community of the Schoolhouse. Prints are for sale through the Schoolhouse, and viewing will be available during office hours of Mondays and Wednesdays from 12-5 and during the Spring Plant Sale ‪on Sunday, May 21st.

“My current love is watercolor; I like the magic it creates.
As I use the paints, I don’t control how the colors and water and pigments flow together on their own;
I can put a splotch of paint on the paper and it will run and make configurations that I wouldn’t have imagined!
Although I use varied subject matter, my interest in the human body has endured and deepened throughout the years.
It has been my love to do the human form; I really get a lot from imaging a person. I feel like I know them and I merge with them.” KHy current love is watercolor; I like the magic it creates.
