Terry Riley and Gyan Riley depend on the synchronous intuition that develops between a father and a son. Sometimes they begin with a structure where melodic, harmonic, modal and rhythmic elements are predetermined along with a flow chart of sequential events. One of their favorite forms is starting from a place where neither performer has an overview. They instead must find their way together.
Their music also has a connection to the improvising traditions of both Jazz and Indian Classical. On Friday, April 26, these local favorites will bring their spontaneous ways back to the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center.
